The Fine Print

Understanding

Peel back the label to understand the story beneath

Everyone has a label. But labels only show a small part of the story.

The fine print holds the experiences, emotions, strengths, and truths that shape who we are.

When we understand the fine print, we create connection, compassion, and change. It's time to create change where it matters the most.

Meet The Creator

Erika Arnone

RN, BSN, PMH-BC, CADC, MA, MPA

Erika is a board-certified psychiatric mental health registered nurse, certified alcohol and drug counselor, college educator, and former federal probation officer with nearly two decades of experience across healthcare, criminal justice, education, crisis-response, and recovery-focused systems.

Why Understanding The Fine Print Was Created

Through her work, Erika recognized a common theme:

Everyone has a story beneath the surface.

Understanding The Fine Print™ was created from the belief that people cannot be understood only by their roles, diagnoses, mistakes, or struggles.

There is always more to the story…

A diagnosis, charge, addiction, or difficult chapter may be part of someone's story, but it is not the whole story.

As a psychiatric nurse and former recovery court facilitator, Erika witnessed the importance of looking beyond the label and understanding the person behind it.

Understanding the Fine Print was created to help individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered as they navigate their own journey of growth, healing, and change.

The Challenge

In behavioral health, recovery, and treatment settings, clients are introduced to valuable concepts through therapy, groups, and treatment planning.

But the work does not end when the session does.

Between sessions, after discharge, and beyond program completion, many individuals struggle to organize their thoughts, apply coping skills, recognize patterns, advocate for themselves, connect goals to daily actions, and continue building a life beyond their diagnosis, addiction, or circumstances.

The Gap We Saw

In The Hospital

Patients often request activities and resources to help them cope, reflect, and pass the time in a meaningful way.

Many programs have excellent therapeutic topics, but materials are often:

  • Scattered across different resources

  • Limited to worksheets or handouts

  • Difficult to continue after discharge

  • Missing the patient’s personal story and goals

In Recovery Court

Participants engage in life-changing discussions about recovery, accountability, goals, and personal growth.

But many leave without one organized workbook containing the topics, reflections, and tools they can revisit throughout their journey.

The Solution

Understanding the Fine Print provides individuals with an individual, organized workbook to begin their journey, bringing education, reflection, advocacy, and personal growth together in one place.

Through structured exercises and guided prompts, individuals have a space to process what they learn, practice new skills, and create lasting change, while in treatment and beyond.
